 About Computer Science in Your Classroom

The state Computer Science Standards are written to include core computer science skills of critical thinking, problem-solving, computational thinking, and mathematical reasoning in all subjects.  In this course, educators will gain an awareness of the Utah CS standards and how they can be implemented in any curriculum using unplugged activities and robotics.  Each educator will have access to a variety of robotics (Sphero, Microbits, etc) to explore at home.  This is an online course however, you will be required to meet virtually during week 3 for a 2-hour Zoom session.

 Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Have an awareness and understanding of the Utah State Computer Science Standards for K5 and 6-12
  • Gain an understanding of how a variety of UT Computer Science standards can be implemented within the participant's current curriculum
  • Successfully use a variety of robotics and unplugged activities to apply the core concepts found in the standards
  • Determine their role in accomplishing the state's goal of "Access for All" by 2022

 

 Final Assessment

Create a lesson plan that incorporates your curriculum area and the CS standards. Look at the vision statement and determine what your role is in this vision.
