 About The Perfect Blend: Models, Standards, and Student Choice

The focus of this course will be understanding the different blended learning models and frameworks. These will be explained and modeled in class in order to guide participants in understanding and developing their own blended learning materials. This course is designed to consist of one in-person session and then four weeks of online work. This will allow the participant time to work on concepts, principles, course materials and apply them in their classroom. There will also be online work between classes that will consist of videos, readings, discussions, and using the blended learning models and frameworks in practice. In the end, participants will create a blended unit/lesson plan that follows the blended learning models and frameworks. Flex Course
Experience learning with online live virtual sessions. This flex course will consist of virtual meeting days and weekly online work. There are two virtual days in which the course will meet virtually. At the conclusion of the two virtual sessions, there will be four weeks of online work that will include a weekly discussion and assignment. The virtual sessions will consist of whole group instruction activities using web conferencing software in which participants will have time for instruction as well discussions and small group and independent work. (This is an interactive component, virtual sessions will not just be a 3-hour webinar.)

 Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Define Blended Learning
  • Identify and apply different blended learning models and frameworks in the classroom
  • Develop a plan for implementing blended learning
  • Evaluate current practices and determine how to apply to blended learning frameworks
  • Determine which digital tools fit best with blended learning models
  • Become familiar with the ISTE standards for students

 

 Final Assessment

Participants will develop a blended learning lesson using the model, framework, and digital tools of their choice. The lesson should allow for student choice and pace as well as options for differentiation.
