About Minecraft Education- It's More Than Just a Game!

In this online course, teachers will learn about Minecraft Education, a game-based teaching and learning tool to enrich classroom learning. Participants must have an Office 365 account to participate in this course. The course guides participants to encourage their students to think creatively, work collaboratively, and engage in problem-solving immersive environments. In this course, participants will be able to apply Minecraft to their own curriculum and show the importance of collaborative learning. In the end, participants will create or remix their own lesson within Minecraft and see how Minecraft is more than just a game.

 Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Identify and explain the benefits of game-based learning when crafting learning experiences for students
  • Use Minecraft: Education Edition to learn how to think creatively, work collaboratively, and engage in problem-solving immersive environments
  • Explain the importance of collaborative learning available in by choosing multiplayer options when planning a lesson
  • Make a creative lesson plan for any subject in Minecraft
  • Use Minecraft: Education Edition: Teacher Academy to help you learn and develop your skills in Minecraft and earn your Minecraft Certified Teacher Badge

 

 Final Assessment

Using the work from prior modules, learners will create a lesson plan or remix a lesson plan (using Minecraft lesson plan document) to teach to their students. In this lesson plan, participants will have to think about the world they want to use, modality (students in individual worlds on their own devices, students in small groups with one host in their world, or all students join a teacher-hosted world together), and how they want to assess student learning. Next, participants will screencast a world they created or remixed to align with their lesson plan. In their screencast, participants will explain how they plan to use this world in their classroom
