About Sparking Curiosity and Creativity Using Genius Hour
In this online course, teachers will learn about the Genius Hour method to enrich their teaching and students’ learning. The course guides participants to encourage student inquiry through using research databases in Utah’s Online School Library, composing and selecting good questions/topics, teaching research skills and strategies, and planning and preparing to use Genius Hour in their own class. In the end, participants will create a Genius Hour resource they can use with their class.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
- Explain the Genius Hour method and how to use it with students.
- Develop and compose questions for research.
- Research a topic through the use of materials found in Utah’s Online School Library.
- Connect students and classrooms by sharing and reflecting on the Genius Hour experience with the school and community.
- Determine how to structure, grade, and share a Genius Hour project.
- Design a resource in which students are guided through inquiry, research, implementation, and presentation.
Final Assessment
In this course, participants will compile resources and make decisions for developing their own Genius Hour resource for their class. For their final project, participants will finalize their Genius Hour resources and share their resources with their classmates.
