Full course description

The “Mixed Reality for Education” in person class will provide educators with a sampling of emerging technologies including both augmented reality applications for portable devices, and a mix of virtual reality applications. By the end of the two day experience each participant will have learned the benefits of using 3-D enhanced resources to engage students. Through this understanding, each participant will also create and share a “redefined” classroom lesson that includes AR and/or VR student experiences.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
Understand the benefits of using a 3D technology enhanced tool or app by experiencing a VR enhanced learning activity
Choose from a selection of Google VR tools to build a resource for students using a 3D image placed on virtual map
Use NearPod to create a digital formative assessment with VR features enabled
Create student activities that utilize AR and /or VR applications to enhance student engagement and deeper learning
Work independently to explore apps and resources they can use to support student made AR and/or VR materials
Develop a full lesson plan to use with students that incorporates AR and/or VR applications and programs to meet a Utah
Curriculum aligned learning outcome

Final Assessment
As a culminating activity, participants will revise a lesson plan they’ve used in the past with AR and/or VR tools to redefine the learning activity. The finished lesson plan will be uploaded to the UEN Lesson Plan Library and shared with both the class and the participant’s PLN.
