About Game-Based Learning and Gamification
In this course, students will learn how to effectively implement game-based learning and gamification in the classroom. The course provides a series of readings, resources, links, and video tutorials that explain what game-based learning and gamification are, why they are worth considering, and how to use them effectively. The course also covers a few examples of websites and other educational resources that can make game-based learning and gamification more practical in today’s classrooms. The course is divided into two parts: one that focuses on game-based learning and one that focuses on gamification.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
- Explain the benefits of using game-based learning and gamification in the classroom
- Locate and effectively use free pre-made educational games with their students
- Create their own customized educational game shows and other contests that match their curriculum
- Create their own educational content for educational massive multiplayer online games and formative assessment games that match their curriculum
- Use online tools in order to "gamify" their classroom and/or curriculum
- Thoughtfully produce a plan for integrating game-based learning and/or gamification in the classroom
Final Assessment
Participants will develop and write a lesson plan that effectively uses game-based learning or gamification in the classroom. Your lesson plan should include at least the following elements: Summary, Curriculum Tie, Materials, Intended Learning Outcomes, Instructional Procedures, and Assessment Plan.
