Full course description

About UCET/ UELMA Book Club

Join UCET & UELMA for a statewide book club on a series of books from speakers at our 2024 conference: Donalyn Millers’ The Book Whisperer, Richard Culatta’s Digital for Good, and Carl Hooker’s Learning Evolution. Participants will engage in a series of asynchronous discussions and will develop a learning environment implementation project based on their chosen books. To receive credit, participants must complete two of the three books/modules and all work associated with that book. UCET & UELMA will also offer synchronous virtual discussion groups in January-March 2024 with participants. Books are to be purchased by the educator.

 Expected Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Engage in communal discussion of a common text in education.
  • Develop a better understanding of the major concepts within the common texts (digital citizenship, librarianship, literacy, and artificial intelligence).
  • Build connections with community members across the state to create a larger network for our educator community.
  • Create an implementation project that supports your learners and engages them with the concepts in our common texts.

 Final Assessment

Teachers will create an implementation project based on Digital For Good. The implementation project will take into consideration the educator’s position and their goals within their learning environment (classroom, library, school, district, etc.). The educator will have choices about how they show their learning about the book.
