Full course description

In this workshop participants become familiar with the principles of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and strategies for implementing PBL projects in their classrooms. Throughout this six-week workshop, participants analyze, critique and evaluate exemplary projects. They gain hands-on experience developing collaborative, inquiry-based projects that support curriculum goals. Participants learn to blend PBL and standards-based design strategies to create curriculum units that enhance student learning. Each participant leaves the online workshop with a detailed plan for a PBL project.

Expected Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this course participants should be able to:
  • Apply the principles of Project-Based Learning by composing an outline for PBL activities to be implemented in their own classes.
  • Analyze and evaluate existing Project-Based Learning activities by developing their own collection of web-based Project-Based Learning resources to support their own curricular planning.
  • Demonstrate their understanding of concepts explored in the class by designing a standards-based, technology-enhanced PBL project and student assessment for classroom use.
