In this course, teachers will gain a comprehensive understanding of digital citizenship and learn how to cultivate a positive and safe online environment with students. Inspired by Richard Culatta’s “Digital for Good,” this course is designed to empower educators to foster a positive and responsible digital culture in their classrooms. Participants will explore the core principles of digital citizenship, develop effective strategies for teaching digital responsibility, and discuss strategies for preventing and addressing cyberbullying. By modeling positive digital practices, teachers will inspire their students to make informed and ethical choices online.

This ten-week course will focus on developing and demonstrating Utah school leaders' competencies for continuous improvement and growth. The best leaders are learners, and this course will support participants in deepening their understanding of the tenets of adult learning. Leaders will engage with current and emerging trends in education while building and expanding their professional learning community. Job-embedded activities and resources will support participants in examining their professional learning goals, evaluating the learning opportunities they offer their staff, and planning for the upcoming year.

Course
This course introduces teachers to filmmaking as a way to enhance teaching and learning. Participants learn basic skills in storyboarding, video production, and digital citizenship while exploring how filmmaking can be integrated into project-based lessons that engage students in curricula. Participants will gain hands-on experience capturing digital video, using software and mobile apps for video editing, and exploring copyright-friendly media resources and Creative Commons licensing. They will also explore film as a vehicle for storytelling, artistic expression, and demonstrating content mastery. Participants will create their own film. They will also create a lesson plan for utilizing filmmaking in the classroom. This course will help participants prepare to involve their own students in filmmaking.

The UEN Educational Technology Endorsement Program is grounded in the ISTE Standards for Educators and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards.
